Loudon Club History

Charter for WebThe Loudon Lions Club was chartered on  November 19, 1935 by Lions Clubs International.  The club was sponsored by the Cleveland Lions Club and the Charter Night was held at the Masonic Lodge Bldg.  The following charter members were in attendance:

M. O. Brueckner, J. I.  Breazeale, Y. P. Breeding, H. L. Brooks, Rev. W. C. Bryant, Dr. W. B. Campbell, Sr., Charles Colville, Albert C. Dukes, Arthur Fowler, R. M. Gray, Dr. Arthur Harrison, W. S. Kirkland, Kyle Kollock, Raymond Lyle, J. Earl McCall, Herbert McKinney, Homer Newman, Charles Plemons, Frank Quinn, Dr. J. R. Watkins, N. A. Weaver, Sr., Sam Wilson

 

Several father/son teams have served the club over the years.  Some important dates in the club’s history are:

  • 1936 – Club’s 1st Service Project – Putting up lights at old H.S. field
  • 1963 – Loudon Lions Club sponsored the charter night for the Greenback Club
  • 1970 – 35th Anniversary – Week of November 16th proclaimed by Mayor as “Lions Club Week”
  • 1971 – Lions Park Dedication – 5 acre tract of land serving the community with picnic shelters, children’s playground, basketball courts and a horse-shoe pit.  2500 people attended the ceremony  The park is available for rent through the Loudon Parks and Rec Dept. by calling 458-7525.
  • 1999 – Loudon Lions Club sponsored the Tellico Village Club (PID Bill Watkins was the Guiding Lion)
  • 1985 – 50th Anniversary – Loudon Lions Club
  • 2010 – 75th Anniversary – Loudon Lions Club
  • May 2014 – Merger of Lenoir City Lions Club with Loudon Lions Club to be called Loudon Lions Club
  • November 2015 – 80th Anniversary – Loudon Lions Club (oldest club in the District)
